Colostrum

Colostrum is the first form of milk produced by mammals with which newborns are nursed within the first days following their birth. It is a unique food of unparalleled importance for the survival and further development of newborns as it is rich in components such as immunoglobulins (antibodies), antimicrobial peptides, growth factors, vitamins, trace elements, etc. similar to those found in human breast milk. The main type of immunoglobulin found in colostrum is IgG; however, other types of antibodies such as IgA, IgD, IgE, and IgM are also present in smaller quantities. Bovine colostrum has been used for many decades, while in recent years, increasing evidence has been discovered regarding its contribution to managing diseases in both children and adults.

Lysozyme

Lysozyme is an antimicrobial enzyme discovered by Sir Alexander Fleming in 1922. It is one of the key components found in the mucus of the upper respiratory tract, significantly contributing to its local defense. It serves a crucial role in the immune system by contributing to the breakdown of bacterial cell walls, resulting in their destruction, thus functioning as an antimicrobial agent. Additionally, it can act synergistically with other antimicrobial polypeptides. Lysozyme is also found in egg white and has been used for years in health, food industries, among others, due to its antimicrobial properties.
